Plugzmart is an electric vehicle charging technology startup incubated at IIT Madras Research Park. Plugzmart has formally signed a contract with the Government of Tamil Nadu. The company has now signed an official Memorandum of Understanding to invest ₹100 crore in the state. The strategic investments will drive physical growth and technological development in the company to meet the most important needs of their supply chain in the clean mobility space. The formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will occur at the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026. 

The event made a significant platform for industrial and technological investments in the state. The event was presided over by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, highlighting the state government’s efforts to promote self-reliant technological advancement and green energy production schemes.

Key executive leaders from Plugzmart came into the conclave to finalise the transaction. Vivek Samynathan, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Plugzmart, and Ragavendra Ravichandran, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Plugzmart, attended the event to enter the agreement. 

Their involvement underscored the leadership’s determination to expand the startup from an incubation initiative into a major industrial component in the domestic electric vehicle hardware manufacturing sector.

The ₹100-crore agreement is expected to generate substantial socio-economic returns to the region apart from the direct infrastructure development by the generation of high-skill jobs. The proposed growth is anticipated to create 500 new employment opportunities over the three years. 

These career paths will encompass technical specialties covering hardware engineering, power electronics, embedded hardware and software development, and advanced manufacturing processes. For this operational growth, investment will revolve around upgrading the capacity of Plugzmarteen’s main factory. 

This manufacturing unit is located in Oragadam, one of the major industrial areas of Tamil Nadu. The investment will boost the plant’s production capacity, allowing the company to respond to larger industrial orders and market schedules for commercial deployment of the plant in various controlled markets.

Advanced technological capabilities and planned expansion

The primary operational mission of Plugzmart revolves around the design, development, and production of scalable and highly reliable electric vehicle charging hardware systems. The company is particularly focused on building charging solutions from within, thereby minimizing its dependence on imports.

Its key technologies are indigenous controller units, power line communication modules, and a full suite of charging units. Plugzmart produces alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) charging for different power requirements.

Their product range features AC and DC chargers all the way from 3.3 kW up to high-capacity 360 kW chargers. This provides the company with the flexibility to offer suitable charging technology solutions for various operational settings, from low-power residential stations to high-power commercial fast-charging stations.

Under the ₹100 crore Memorandum of Understanding, the expansion is designed to cater to a diverse range of stakeholders in the broader electric mobility market. The concept of Plugzmart’s scalable charging architecture is designed to satisfy the technical and operational requirements of the original equipment manufacturer, fleet owners, charge point operators, and public infrastructure providers.

Plugzmart produces the hardware and core sub-components in-house, making it a reliable and customisable choice for fleet managers aiming to electrify commercial transport and operators tasked with building public charging networks. This holistic solution empowers the charging infrastructure to continue to serve diverse vehicle classes and maintain high utilization rates while offering interoperability and resiliency.
