SUMMARY

Water infrastructure startup Neuromod Aqua has raised a pre-seed investment from Porush Jain, based in New Delhi. Porush Jain is the founder of Sportskeeda. The company will use the new funds to build a factory-made platform that focuses on decentralised sewage and effluent treatment.

The company’s main business is to develop a procedure for standardizing the entire lifespan of a wastewater treatment plant, from design, manufacture, and installation to long-term services, rather than coming up with a new treatment process.

Capital injection and proven process technologies

This capital infusion will directly assist several important operating milestones at this enterprise. Neuromod Aqua plans to build a specific manufacturing facility, validate and develop its productised sewage treatment plant, undertake early commercial deployments, and train in-house process engineering and servicing skills.

The startup aims to bridge critical gaps in execution and accountability currently faced by the water infrastructure landscape by making treatment plants predictable and repeatable. Neuromod Aqua is an innovative firm in the environmental engineering sector founded in 2026 by Anuj Arora and Anand Dad.

The company’s core business develops modular wastewater treatment systems with known and scientifically verified process technologies, including Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR), Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), and Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR). The primary innovation from Neuromod Aqua is essentially how these standard systems are structurally built and delivered.

The platform features standardized modules, which can be customized to provide different capacity requirements and treatment needs to operate. The process design is site-specific, but the structural design, equipment interfaces, installation procedures, and service architecture are standardized for scale. This significant pre-factory engineering enables installation periods as short as days instead of months when site readiness is achieved.

Market opportunity and economic framework

India still has tremendous market potential and demand for efficient wastewater infrastructure. The Central Pollution Control Board has reported national-level statistics on the generation of sewage, averaging around 72,368 million litres of sewage per day (MLD) in urban centres throughout India.

In comparison, the country’s existing treatment capacity is 31,841 MLD against the huge generation of about 30,000 MLDs, whereas only approximately 20,235 MLDs of treated sewage are actually utilized. Roughly 28% of sewage produced in urban areas is treated in the country.

In the long term, based on the findings of the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) analysis in 2025, India will require 70,000 MLD of additional treatment capacity by 2047. This capacity gap will require a scale of investment in the range of ₹1.56 lakh crore to ₹2.31 lakh crore.

The main thesis of Neuromod Aqua is that the solution to this deficit is not to be found in each individual installation as a site-built, civil engineering project but in scalable, productised manufacturing. Neuromod Aqua has engineered a lifecycle-based business model to guarantee long-term plant performance and sustained operation post-commissioning.

The company will provide a larger share of its future revenues from the delivery of annual maintenance contracts, operations and maintenance (O&M) services, continuous compliance support, equipment replacement, and remote monitoring products. This economic model ensures that the treatment plant business interests are firmly connected to the overall treatment plant performance and efficiency.

Conclusion

This was a significant step in the decentralised wastewater treatment space for Neuromod Aqua. The startup is set to solve the huge sewage treatment deficit in India with the existing treatment technology and modularity in design and comprehensive services and life cycle support provided by the factory. With the help of Porush Jain, Neuromod Aqua intends to change the character of wastewater infrastructure from being project-centric to productised, scalable, and reliable.
