Hyderabad startup ecosystem reports capital access challenges despite $3 billion funding

SUMMARY

Hyderabad has become one of the most dynamic technology and startup ecosystems in India, with substantial amounts of investment made in it within recent years. The city managed to attract more than $3 billion in investment and establish itself as an important place of innovation and ventures. The major macroeconomic lines are impressive, but the reality for the larger entrepreneurial system is complicated.

Access to capital remains the top challenge for nearly 33% of founders and business leaders in Hyderabad, despite the region’s high capital inflow. This is a sharp divide between macro data on investment and the experience of the many micro company-stage starters.

Strengths and Hyderabad Startup Readiness Index 2026

The Hyderabad Startup Ecosystem Confidence Scorecard 2026, according to the survey of 216 founders, investors, corporates and ecosystem partners, awarded the city a 6.5 out of 10 overall ecosystem confidence score. The results indicate that Hyderabad has transitioned from establishment growth to growth capability, as the attention is now directed to scaling the companies.

The city continues to show strong performance in infrastructure, talent availability and cost efficiency, but now growth capital and market access will be critical. Infrastructure and connectivity came out as Hyderabad’s strongest competitive edge among 43% of survey responses. Availability of talent came in at 38%, and cost efficiency was emphasized by 36%.

Since 2014, the city has witnessed more than 10,000 ventures emerge and has been the recipient of more than $3 billion in venture capital investments through 384 deals. Hyderabad is the second largest technology talent hub in India, with more than 355 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) accounting for nearly one-fifth of India’s technology talent hub.

Challenges and perspectives from stakeholders

33% of the respondents reported capital access as their largest barrier, despite this factor being a strength. The second largest gap, mentioned by 29%, was market access. Founders noted funding problems at different stages of the startup lifecycle, and investors noted the absence of funds at several stages.

This shows that Hyderabad has been able to nurture the establishment of startups; there is an issue of the sustainability of the same in the ecosystem. The report pointed out varied viewpoints from different stakeholders.

Founders shared concerns about funding issues, especially in the growth phase. Investors concurred on this and indicated that fund availability at several stages has been limited.

The ecosystem enablers remained optimistic, citing Hyderabad’s collaborative environment and institutional support as enduring strengths. However, there was convergence on the need for higher collaboration between founders, investors, corporates and policymakers, along with more access to growth capital and deepening the market linkages for Hyderabad’s next level up.

Conclusion

Hyderabad Innovation Report 2026 suggests that although Hyderabad has been successful in creating a conducive environment for a thriving innovation ecosystem, there is a need for more capital and better market linkages in order to sustain the growth.
