Reliance Intelligence AI division begins operations

SUMMARY

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), one of India’s largest and most diverse companies, has  started operations for its new artificial intelligence subsidiary, Reliance Intelligence. This  launch is an important part of Reliance’s plan to develop advanced AI capabilities in India.  The new company, known as Reliance Intelligence (REIL), will be led by Gaurav Aggarwal,  the Chief AI Scientist at Reliance Jio, and will serve as a key part of the group’s expanding  digital and technology framework.

The announcement also marks the beginning of active hiring, indicating that the company is  quickly moving from planning to action. Reliance Intelligence is looking for AI and machine  learning engineers, with a special focus on developing models for Indian languages and  creating new AI-driven products.

Building India’s AI Workforce

Gaurav Aggarwal, who is leading this initiative, has shared several job openings for AI and  ML engineers on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn. He  expressed Reliance Intelligence’s goal to explore new possibilities within India’s AI  landscape.

“At Reliance Intelligence, we’re building a team to push the limits of what is possible in  India’s AI ecosystem,” Aggarwal said, inviting skilled engineers and researchers to join the  effort. He highlighted the importance of this opportunity, describing it as a chance to “make  history” by contributing to impactful AI systems. A Google Form linked to his posts lists job  openings for the role of “AI/ML Engineer – Reliance Intelligence (Research Organisation).”

In another LinkedIn update, Aggarwal mentioned that professionals with experience in  training pipelines, distributed systems, model optimisation, and deep learning research would  find this role particularly valuable, especially with the chance to work on a national and  enterprise scale.

Leadership with Global AI Experience

Aggarwal has a wealth of experience in AI, both globally and in India. Before joining  Reliance Jio, he worked as an AI researcher at top organisations like Google DeepMind and  IBM. He has also led data science and AI teams at Indian tech companies such as Ola and  Snapdeal. Aggarwal took on his leadership role at Jio in May 2024, highlighting Reliance’s  commitment to attracting top AI talent with strong research and implementation skills.

Strategic Structure and Global Partnerships

Founded in September 2025, Reliance Intelligence is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance  Industries, aimed at consolidating and expanding the group’s AI efforts. This unit includes  Reliance’s AI partnerships with global tech giants like Google and Meta Platforms.

Under a joint venture arrangement, REIL will focus on developing, marketing, and  distributing enterprise AI services. Reliance Intelligence holds a 70 percent stake in this  venture, while Facebook, a part of Meta, owns the remaining 30 percent. Both partners have  invested an initial ₹855 crore, showing the scale and seriousness of this initiative.

Infrastructure and AI Ecosystem Growth

As part of its wider AI strategy, the Reliance Group is also building a large, AI-ready data  centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This facility will support high-performance computing needs for  large AI models, data processing, and enterprise-level applications.

In October this year, Google, in collaboration with Reliance Intelligence, began offering  Google’s AI Pro plan to eligible Jio users for free for 18 months. This package includes  access to Google’s advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro model, improved image and video generation  tools, enhanced Notebook LM features, and 2 TB of cloud storage, valued at around ₹35,100.

Conclusion

With the launch of Reliance Intelligence, RIL has taken a significant step to lead India’s AI  transformation. By combining strong leadership, global partnerships, extensive infrastructure,  and a focus on Indic-language and enterprise AI solutions, Reliance Intelligence is poised to  play a crucial role in shaping the future of AI in India.
