PowerTel selected Tejas Networks for the implementation of a 400Gbps DWDM system for its Pan-India DWDM Network

SUMMARY
PowerTel, a telecommunications provider of Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), has selected Tejas Networks as the contractor to conduct a large-scale Telecom Capacity Augmentation Project. This major collaboration will entail Tejas Networks deploying a next-generation Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-based Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network over the existing pan-India network of PowerTel. This partnership highlights a strategic shift to enormously expand the capacity of the backbone of the network to react to the burgeoning requirement for high-bandwidth connectivity in India.
Technology deployment
The entire project given to Tejas Networks includes numerous critical technical tasks. These involve the complex network design, provision of the required equipment, and the following installation, testing, commissioning, and integration of the new system. The implementation of 400Gbps DWDM is the main agenda. This system will be implemented in new locations, which will be termed as greenfield locations, and it will be used at the same time to support the massive modernization of links that are already in the network of PowerTel.
Tejas Networks will use the state-of-the-art TJ1600 DWDM/OTN technology to install the high-speed connectivity required. It is a highly capable advanced equipment that is capable of providing up to 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) capacity on a single wavelength. The TJ1600 product offers the technology of the alien wavelength that is fundamental in upgrading modern networks.
Network augmentation project
The present network augmentation project is prompted by the fact that the demands of high-bandwidth connectivity in numerous key areas in the country are skyrocketing. The upgrade is specially built to support the booming demand by the data center providers, telcos, government agencies, and large businesses. Tejas Networks boasts of being amongst the only handful of optical networking providers to have commercially rolled out alien wavelength technology in scale across widely and complex third-party optical line systems, a feat that it has refined over over a decade of research.
The Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Tejas Networks, Arnob Roy, said, “We are delighted to extend our long-standing partnership with PowerTel to augment the backbone capacity of their pan-India DWDM network to address the exploding demand for high-bandwidth connectivity from data center providers, telcos, government and large enterprises. Our pioneering alien wavelength solution offers a cost-effective transition path for global telecom operators to significantly boost capacities on their brownfield networks while enhancing supply chain diversity and accelerating time-to-market for new services. With over a decade-long experience in researching and perfecting this technology, our company is one of the very few optical networking suppliers in the world to have commercially deployed alien wavelength technology at scale over diverse and complex third-party optical line systems.”

Conclusion
The decision of Powertel to encourage Tejas Networks in upgrading its pan-India DWDM network to 400Gbps is a significant technological breakthrough that seeks to address the growing bandwidth demand that is sweeping the country. Tejas Networks is offering a low-cost and high-performance solution by using the multi-terabit TJ1600 DWDM/OTN product and the proven alien wavelength technology behind it. This capacity augmentation initiative will serve a wide range of customers, including the data centers and telcos, as well as the government and large businesses, by providing the next generation of fast connectivity, which will cement the long-term relationship between Tejas Networks and PowerTel.
