PowerTel, a telecommunications provider of Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), has selected Tejas Networks as the contractor to conduct a large-scale Telecom Capacity Augmentation Project. This major collaboration will entail Tejas Networks deploying a next-generation Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-based Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network over the existing pan-India network of PowerTel. This partnership highlights a strategic shift to enormously expand the capacity of the backbone of the network to react to the burgeoning requirement for high-bandwidth connectivity in India.

Technology deployment

The entire project given to Tejas Networks includes numerous critical technical tasks. These involve the complex network design, provision of the required equipment, and the following installation, testing, commissioning, and integration of the new system. The implementation of 400Gbps DWDM is the main agenda. This system will be implemented in new locations, which will be termed as greenfield locations, and it will be used at the same time to support the massive modernization of links that are already in the network of PowerTel.

Tejas Networks will use the state-of-the-art TJ1600 DWDM/OTN technology to install the high-speed connectivity required.
