SUMMARY

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has partnered with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Gramodyam is the entrepreneur development program launched by NABARD and NSDC. It is a collaboration initiative aimed at nurturing and empowering budding rural entrepreneurs throughout India. The project aims to establish a powerful ecosystem encouraging local entrepreneurship and unleashing the economic potential of rural areas through the integration of these leading establishments.

Strategic partnership and core objectives

The official induction for Gramodyam was held as a milestone event. The project was officially launched on the exact day of NABARD’s 45th Foundation Day by the Chairman of NABARD, Dr. Shaji K V. For this purpose, the initiative is being undertaken with the direct involvement of the NSDC under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

This project would be implemented in a joint process, and a functional framework for its implementation is provided by the collaboration with the Institute for Industrial Development (IID). The core of Gramodyam involves the discovery, training, and extensive assistance of rural persons with aspirations of running their own businesses.

The programme is designed to support these individuals through all phases of their business journey by delivering holistic entrepreneurship education training, mentoring, structured training of their business plans, credit facilitation, and connections with relevant markets. Its strategy will be a hybrid to achieve a massive reach. The exhibition manner enables the programme to be inclusive across multiple states and union territories while integrating hands-on on-ground outreach with a digital component.

Digital infrastructure and pilot goals

Gramodyam is highly structured and ensures long-term business success for the participants. Each participant of the programme will be systematically assessed, offered counseling, skill training, and mentoring.

It is only after these preparatory steps that they can receive direct support in the formalization and launch of their enterprises. The programme has defined clear standards for its first deployment. The programme aims at reaching approximately 4,000 rural entrepreneurs throughout the next 3 years during this critical pilot period.

Access to funds is one of the major challenges for any new entrepreneur, and Gramodyam takes a bold approach to solving this problem. The project aims to significantly ease access to credit for those who will participate.

It will also help upcoming business entrepreneurs in making a detailed project report, aid them in the application procedure for financial loans for business entrepreneurs, and provide direct liaison with Regional Rural Banks and financial institutions. In addition to the banking support, the programme will actively support and guide entrepreneurial participants to identify and avail the available government schemes and incentives that can further help strengthen their enterprise.

NABARD and NSDC are heavily investing in technology monitoring efforts to make the programme effective and effective. This initiative will utilise NSDC’s dedicated digital platform to track each participant’s journey from the time of registration to actual creation of the enterprise.

This digital infrastructure will be used to carefully track and monitor critical performance metrics. The information consists of successful completion of training modules, actual business formation rates of these enterprises, official UDYAM and GST registration, and performance of these newly formed rural businesses.
