SUMMARY

Mistral AI has reached a big achievement by getting a huge $600 million in funding, making its value  rise to $6 billion. It has support from investors like General Catalyst and Lightspeed Venture Partners,  and its team includes former workers from big tech companies like Meta and Google DeepMind.  Mistral AI is close to sealing another $600 million funding deal, which will boost its value even more  and make it stronger in the AI industry. Microsoft has invested $16 million in Mistral and is working  with them to use their AI models through the Azure cloud platform, showing Mistral’s growing  importance.

Although some EU lawmakers have criticized Mistral’s partnership with Microsoft, it actually opens up  new chances for innovation in AI. Mistral plans to use the funding to improve its technology and grow  in the market, setting it up for more success in the future. In comparison to last year, Mistral nearly  tripled its valuation by achieving $6 billion. The startup will be using the fund to enhance its working  technology, and resources and expand in the market.

Microsoft after securing an exclusive deal with  Mistral to use their AI model makes Azure an interesting prospect for people building with other  Mistral models. According to a report by The Verge, Arun Chandrasekaran (an analyst) mentioned that  unlike the OpenAI investment, which they were very public, the Mistral deal and investment will be  more on a secret side. Microsoft won’t be bringing Mistral inside its apps but will use them only to  train models on Azure, he added.

Mistral AI already has some big investors like Microsoft Corp, Lightspeed Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz,  and the AI startup OpenAI. Microsoft showed they believed in Mistral’s future by putting a lot of money  into the company in February this year. However, some European Union (EU) lawmakers were not  happy about the deal between Microsoft and Mistral. They wanted to check if it was making things  unfair for other companies in the market.
