Mesa School Funding ₹100 Crore Series A

SUMMARY

Mesa is a new-age business school headquartered in Bengaluru. Mesa School is planning to raise approximately ₹100 crore in a Series A round of funding. The proposed funding transaction signifies the trend of alternative business education platforms in India. The capital will be raised through a mixture of equity investment and debt financing. Sources with access to the matter said nearly ₹84 crore of the total amount is expected to be raised through equity investment and the balance amount of ₹16 crore through venture debt. Funding negotiations are ongoing but not finalized.

Operational growth and transaction

In addition to the main fundraise, Mesa co-founder Varun Limaye is seeking to sell about a 2.9% stake in the company through a secondary sale for around ₹3 crore. Sources claim this is the secondary component being absorbed by existing investors seeking larger stakes in the business school platform. Elevation Capital’s involvement in this secondary purchase was not independently confirmed.

The planned fundraising is at a time when Mesa School is expanding its curriculum and academic programs in various disciplines such as startup leadership, entrepreneurship, product management, and artificial intelligence. The institution’s current offering contains 3 separate programmes to address various learner segments from university graduates to traditional MBAs.

Over the year, new business activity has been strong in Mesa, with annual revenue rising by approximately 2.5X and the total number of students by the same multiple. One of the reasons for this quickened pace is that the company has actively broadened its student base and expanded its repertoire of specialized programmes.

Investor backing and market positioning

The startup was founded by Ankit Kumar and Limaye. Mesa had raised about ₹34 crores (approximately $4 million) in its seed round in April 2023, led by Elevation Capital, where other angel investors were founders of CRED, Kunal Shah; Meesho, Vidit Aatrey; and Urban Company, Abhiraj Bhal.

Elevation Capital did not want to give any comments regarding this matter, and when queries were made to Limaye on Tuesday, he did not respond. Mesa sits in India’s growing new-age business education landscape, alongside niche names including Masters’ Union, Altera Institute and Scaler.

These higher education platforms aim to merge traditional management principles with hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, product design, technology and the general startup ecosystem.

Other platforms have tried their luck here before, including Invact Metaversity, the brainchild of former Twitter India head Manish Maheshwari, and Tanay Pratap, with a focus on blending technology with business education, though since then, its business path has taken a different turn.

Conclusion

The forthcoming Series A fundraising of ₹100 crore for Mesa School is a pivotal point in the company’s growth as it pursues a deeper market presence in India’s tech-infused management education segment.

The equity infusion of ₹84 crore and the venture debt contribution of ₹16 crore, along with a 2.9% secondary stake sale to existing investors from the company’s co-founder Varun Limaye, indicate high confidence in its prospects. The additional funding should enable Mesa to continue its expansion of student numbers by expanding programs in startup leadership, artificial intelligence, and product management.
