SUMMARY

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has received a substantial project order of ₹903 crore from SJVN Thermal. The company was awarded the Letter of Award directly from SJVN Thermal for all major rail connectivity and infrastructure works.

SJVN Thermal is a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN engaged in development of key power generation projects. The contract is one of the latest additions in the move to improve rail logistics and support infrastructure for large power generation facilities spread throughout the country.

Primary objective and ownership structure

Under the contract with Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, it is responsible for constructing a permanent siding as well as an aerial track connection. The following infrastructure development will be implemented during Phase III of the project. The aerial track will connect the permanent siding between the boundary of the plant and Chousa and Pawani Kamarpur in Buxar in Bihar state. 

The main purpose behind this railway infrastructure is to support the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project (BTPP) under development by SJVN Thermal. The total value of this integrated contract is estimated at ₹903 crore, and the construction work is to be completed within 36 months of execution.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is an enterprise of the Government of India and is specialized in the execution and implementation of both Rail Infrastructure projects in India. The company has a national role in the development, extension, and upgrading of key rail infrastructure and associated industrial siding links.

The consistent performance has been recorded by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited in terms of its financial statements in the first quarter of the financial year 2027 (Q1 FY27), along with fresh orders being received operationally. The consolidated net profit in Q1 FY27 has grown by 18.46% to ₹159.36 crore. The consolidated net profit was ₹132.95 crore in Q1 FY26.

The income generated from the operation of the company has grown by 10.55% to ₹4,321.23 crore in Q1 FY27. It was ₹4,187.69 crore in Q1 FY26. The standout performance in financials reflects the efficiency and revenue gains from the company’s existing projects.

In the capital markets, the company experienced an upward trajectory after the announcement of the Letter of Award for the ₹903 crore project. On the stock exchange, the scrip of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited saw active trading and moved up 1.19%. The primary closing price on the BSE was fixed at ₹212. 

This share price rally is due to investor enthusiasm regarding the new project contract that the enterprise secured and the financial performance that has been highlighted by the public sector enterprise.
