One of India’s top engineering and defense manufacturing firms, Larsen & Toubro (L&T),  officially won a sizable contract from the Indian Army’s Corps of Electronics and Mechanical  Engineers (EME) to upgrade and modernize the country’s Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket  Launcher (MBRL) systems. The breakthrough, which was revealed by the corporation on  January 8, represents a significant turning point in India’s attempts to modernize and sustain  its defense. 

For frontline artillery platforms, the contract is an exceptional partnership between the Indian  Army and a local commercial Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Additionally, it is  seen as a significant step toward improving product lifecycle support for in-service and  domestically built defense equipment. Working along with Army Base Workshops 

In cooperation with the Corps of EME’s 510 Army Base Workshop (ABW), L&T will carry  out a prototype overhaul program for the Pinaka launcher and Battery Command Post as part  of the execution plan. The 510 ABW will gradually revamp the remaining systems when this  pilot phase is successfully completed, with L&T continuing to supply essential spare parts,  technical support, and quality control. 

Additionally, the 510 Army Base Workshop EME will use its in-depth subject knowledge  and practical expertise in maintaining Army platforms to overhaul and upgrade important  electronics and related systems. This cooperative strategy guarantees the best possible use of  both internal Army capabilities and industry knowledge. 

OEM-driven modernization strategy
